Rainsong – We’re at the bottom of the hour.
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
Welcome to another Journal Club seminar here at the social club.

boop – yay

Rainsong – Our journal article for the evening is “Structural plasticity of the social brain: Differential change after socio-affective and cognitive mental training”

It was written by Sofie L. Valk , Boris C. Bernhardt, Fynn-Mathis Trautwein, et alia. and published in the journal “Science Advances” in October of last year.

“et alia” means “and others”…. It just means that the full list of co-authors didn’t fit in the citation style. They are all listed at the beginning of the article itself, though

For those of you not fundamentally opposed to reading articles in “Forbes”, the pop-culture nutshell version there is somewhat less difficult to read and understand.

Are there any questions or comments at this stage? This is a journal club, rather than a regular seminar, so it will be a discussion, instead of a lecture.

Hmmm No comments?

With this one, it mostly just seems pretty cool that there’s physical evidence of the differences in the effects of various kinds of meditation and related mental training.

Some kinds of meditation would be a bit tricky to study that way, of course.

Well… Looks like this one was a bust.

Grand Elder Demo – Yep
I’m here tho. lol

Scelana – I’m here too

Rainsong – Hi, Grand Elder and Scelana

Grand Elder Demo – Hello there

Scelana – I wonder what kinds of meditation would be tricky to study that way?

Grand Elder Demo – Also just “Demo” is fine, too, but either can be used

Rainsong – Scelana: Moving mediations such as those done in martial arts or running, because of the kind of machinery involved in measuring the brain stuff

Scelana – Ahh, that makes sense

Rainsong – Long-term changes would show, of course, but the differences during the meditation would be harder

Grand Elder Demo – From what recall, the most temporary changes are what show during the meditation most like brainwave frequency etc

Rainsong – *nods*

Grand Elder Demo – That’s about it from me lol, I’m quite rusty on the topic, it’s something I’m very interested in so I’ll definitely brush up in the near future

Rainsong – The article is freely available, so you can read it at your leisure.
