Alice: So this is a basic meditation used for the purpose of rest. It’s best used twice a day, just after waking up, and five to seven hours later. It’s best to meditate for ten to twenty minutes. Shorter won’t get the full benefit, and longer will have diminishing returns. This type of meditation improves awareness and refreshes the mind and reduces anxiety. It’s best not to do it right before sleep, as it energizes you and can keep you from getting to sleep. If anyone wants the technique this is based on, you can purchase the book Bliss More by Light Watkins on Kindle. It has a much more in depth description of the entire subject, and more information on meditation in general. Some of the description below is my own take on things, so if what I’ve said doesn’t work it may be better to go to my source.
Alice: Also, a side note really, but I did give Rose a personalized mantra that has significance to her. I can’t do that for each of you, but it shouldn’t make any significant difference. For the rest of you, using “Ah-hum” as your mantra should suffice. This is what Light Watkins recommends. Step one is to sit comfortably. Don’t sit rigidly. Sit like you would if you were going to watch television for a long time. Step two is to relax. You don’t try to focus or judge your mind. You let your mind relax and drift. Allow your thoughts to be what they are. This isn’t a hard kind of meditation. Some meditations take focus: those are the one armed push ups of meditation. This is the leisurely stroll of meditations. It’s not about trying hard. It’s about taking it easy. This is a minor, restful mental exercise. Don’t try too hard. Step three is to repeat the mantra mentally, slowly and effortlessly. You let it draw out, a long sound. Ahhhh-huuuummmmm. Ahhhh-huuummmm. As you relax and drift, the mantra will eventually begin to “tug.” It may speed up, or slow down. It may get louder or quieter. It may feel impossibly close or start to drift far away. Whatever it does, let it do so, and it will sort of vanish on it’s own, leaving a stillness behind it. At this point you may still hear thoughts, but they will be dreamlike in quality, almost like they are someone else’s. Let them be. If you start having thoughts that are “mine” again, or become aware you’re meditating, just start repeating the mantra again until you go back under. And that’s it
Rainsong: Thanks, Alice
Rose Cinderfall: for clarity: the way i’ve been doing it and the way Alice explained it to me, the mantra isn’t actually vocalised, rather, it’s done in the mind – mental speaking, as in, thoughts in language that you hear. Thinking in language/sound
Alice: Correct
Alice: And edited for clarity
Vampire of Death: This is really interesting.
Kate Embers: Thank you ^-^ fell asleep yesterday
Rose Cinderfall: It’s this really strange but nice sensation where the mantra you’re repeating starts to repeat on it’s own – seemingly a more subconscious part of your mind takes over that task. And then as it keeps repeating without you having to do anything, you’re basically just waiting until you’re going deeper and deeper into meditative state. It’s.. pretty amazing. I don’t understand how it works.
